This is Donwill’s first album in 7 years. It’s fully produced by The Expert and features Von Pea, Rob Cave, Homeboy Sandman, Shad, yU and a few other amazing artists. The album is essentially a love letter to rap music and the many personal victories and struggles that come with It because that’s what EXPERTISE is. Trial and error. Success and failure. Constant curiousity.

My last official solo album was in 2019. I’ve been making and releasing music since then but not in the form of a focused body work for reasons that I can’t fully explain.
In the time since then I’ve been doing what every other rapper has been doing: podcasting. And while turning on the mic to talk instead of rap seems like a departure, the through line has always been rap music and an appreciation for its highly skilled practitioners.
This is an album about just that. It’s an expression of the appreciation that I have for the many avenues that rap music has allowed me to travel down. The many spaces that I’ve been able to occupy and all of the side missions that might not seem connected to the perception of my purpose.
We all have an area of expertise. For some of us it’s a skill we’ve been honing for years. For others it’s a hobby that has been kept invisible to protect it from judgement. For even more it’s been learning about how to navigate the medical system, about tenant rights or some other type of adult life shit in order to survive.
For me it’s rap music*, a thing I know and do very well. A thing that I care deeply enough about to take 3-4 years to craft an offering of. This is the product of that, music by someone who cares for those who care to listen and here’s hoping it finds the right ears.
