This artist has talent, excitement, and clever word play to make Nas say Hip Hop has now been resurrected.
Skinny-C the Nextablo!
This Florida born, Georgia bred artist is considered a rarity to the skinny jean, finger snapping, cookie cutter rappers out today. Skinny-C is able to merge his book smarts and street wisdom into rhymes that will undoubtedly make him a Hip Hop legend.
“The only way to be different from everyone one else, is to be yourself, because only you can do that, nobody else ” Skinny-C proclaims.
Growing up, Skinny -C was consumed with music; artists ranging from Goodie Mob to Lauryn Hill, Outkast to Tupac, Stevie Wonder and The O’Jays, he knew what he was uniquely created to do–Music.
As a senior at Southwest DeKalb High School, Skinny-C and close friend, Edward “Slim-Dub” Power, formed the duo S-Dub. Although it was all out of fun, their peers saw something more. They saw extreme talent, and with the suggestion of others that heard the duo’s music, they decided to take it seriously.
In 2002, as a freshman at Georgia Southern University, Skinny-C, Slim-Dub, and 3 other mc’s created the group Guthouse. Guthouse was picked to be the featured opening act to Cee-Lo Green and Young Jeezy.
Skinny had a tremendous buzz in the Atlanta Underground scene. His lyrical ability was being compared to Andre 3000. His charisma was being matched with Snoop Dogg and his drive was like that of a young Kanye West.
Skinny -C decided to put more focus in on rhyming. He perfected his skills in writing and free-styling. He wanted to make sure that his music conveyed a positive message and focus on the creativity of the art, not money or fame. 2004 marked the year that Skinny-C embarked on his solo career.
Inflammable was Skinny-C first solo album. The album didn’t hit a commercial success, but it gave him an idea on what the music business is all about. Skinny-C knew how to write, but the business part he wanted to master. He got more involved with not only making incredible lyrics, but production of his albums, and promoting himself.
Skinny-C second release was a self-entitled mix tape dubbed Skinny-C (2005). The mixtape showed more of a broad appeal then just the underground hip hop scene. With better production and a loyal fan base, sells of Skinny-C mixtape got hot over the internet. Skinny begin to open up for acts such as Smoke of Field Mob, Killer Mike, Ciara, and Bobby Valentino.
Intrepid (2006), which is Skinny-C’s third release showed Skinny-C not only as an artist but an entrepreneur. This album showcased maturity in his lyrics, versatility, and creativity as a rapper.
He began to travel and take his music on the road to expand his fan base. He performed at the 11th Annual Juneteenth Festival, and the 2007 Afram Festival in Norfolk, VA. He performed at the 5th Annual Texas Summer Music Conference located in Dallas, TX as well.
Recently, Skinny has re-released his mix-tapes on a larger scale: Mixtape Muzik Vol. 1: INTREPID and Mixtape Muzik Vol.2: RHAPSODY selling 10,000 copies independently, “out the trunk”. Both volumes are now available via internet where fans can globally access. He is currently working on his next released project which will be released under HiPNOTT Records.
