Greek origin: Gift of God
This brown-eyed, Bay Area bred beauty has been singing almost as long as she has been breathing. She stumbled upon her gift one day while rummaging through her mother’s cassette tapes, and at the age of five, she learned songs like “Baby Come To Me” and “Down Home Blues”. Soon after, she entered her first contest, where she won singing, Mariah Carey’s, “Vision of Love”. Even at a young age, she was able to touch listeners with the power and soul that she possesses.
Intrigued by her natural love of performance and self-expression, she pushed forward, following, what she believes is, her God-given purpose, music. She started writing songs at the age of 13 and spent most of her adolescent years recording, writing and performing. It wasn’t long before she found herself at The Apollo Theater in New York City. This would be just the beginning; early in her career, she would claim 3rd in The California Teen Vocal Championships and perform at many notable venues, as well as travel the world studying her craft.
A strong believer in fulfilling one’s purpose, Dasha left her home in San Leandro, California, and headed to sunny Los Angeles to pursue her career in music. A UCLA grad, she obtained a Bachelors of Arts in Ethnomusicology, where she studied under jazz legends, such as, Gerald Wilson, Barbara Morrison and Kenny Burrell.
Priding herself on not being “put in a box” this talented diva is well versed in most genres, including musical theatre. She was commissioned to do a Christian pop song for a feature film in 2007, entitled “X’s and O’s”, starring Hollywood star Kel Mitchell, where she wrote and performed the song ”Praise Him”. In 2007, she was the featured Brains and Beauty for HipHopDX.com for the month of November. With many facets under her belt and over 20 years of experience, she has diversified her gifts and has taken on many titles such as actress, writer, director and host. You can catch her hosting red carpet events for various forms of media such as “Noyze DVD magazine ” and TheClubMix.com. Musically, she has worked with many people in the industry including: The Underdogs, Howard Hewitt, Lil’ Fiz, K Irving, S-Dott, Bedrock and Nobody Famous among others.
In Addition to obtaining more radio play on both fm and Internet stations, Dasha is currently writing for various projects independently and with D.L.S., her writing team. Her priority is writing and recording her own album, which will be done early 2009. With a growing fan base and almost 150,000 plays on her Myspace page, she is definitely on the brink of something major, her destiny. Her time is now.
